Shikoku Rivers
Share this:
Shimanto River is Japan's clearest free flowing river. Niyodo River is Japan's purest river. On this trip, we explore these 2 rivers on the lesser visited island of Shikoku, an island that has maintained its nature and cultural traditions. With kayaks, we will visit traditional villages, experience riverside cultures, and paddle among picturesque valleys. We will stay nightly in onsen, riverside lodges, and small town hotels and be treated to local delicacies.
Along the river, there are 48 low water crossings across the Shimanto River. Look out for these “chinkabashi”, which is a special type of bridge that has no railings and will be completely submerged during high waters so that it doesn't wash away when the river floods.
